Directed by photographer Julia Dean, Project 5 spans five years, over which five silent auctions will be held to fund five socially concerned photography projects, each documented by a team of talented photojournalists.

The first silent auction will take place in early 2010.

The purpose of this silent auction is to raise money for a five-year series of photo documentary projects - one project per year - on five pressing social issues. With each project comes a team of photographers. With the completion of the assignments comes a national exhibit and possibly a book. One per year. For five years. The purpose: to bring awareness to the important social issues. The project aims to bolster the field of documentary photography and to provide a venue for talented photojournalists who are in constant search of financial support as they seek to do important work

The first auction will raise funds to complete Dean's current collaborative project, Child Labor and the Global Village: Photography for Social Change. Subsequent auctions will provide financial support for four additional documentary projects in America.
